A series of compilation videos I've assembled from The Soup with Joel McHale.
A music video edit of various explosions from movies set to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.
Over the years, I’ve done a few different edits of movie explosion scenes set to the 1812 Overture. My oldest one goes back to at least as early as 1995. The most recent one was done in 2005, or thereabouts. I wanted to take a fresh pass at it in full HD with a 5.1 mix. Extracting and assembling the source materials took a while, but I finally got it gathered together. I’ll probably throw together a second video with the assembled material (much of it stuff that didn’t make it into this one), using some music choice other than the 1812 Overture.
The most difficult thing in this newest version has been the audio mix. This is the first time I’ve done it in full 5.1 surround, and full HD for that matter. Video quality of the transcode via this Vimeo link is darn good, which is no surprise. Turn on subtitles via the CC button to show titles of the movie each clip is from.
The download copy has a few alternate audio mixes (higher/lower music levels, music only, explosions only, etc). I suggest VLC or Kodi as playback apps for quality and audio/subtitle track selection.
