So, this is going to be an attempt to wrangle together a list of some of my favorite podcasts, which I’ll try to update and maintain every year or two. I’ve done a few quick and so-so attempts at this in Facebook posts over the last few years. This’ll be a more thought out and be more easily updated, plus I’ll be able to point people to it easier this way.

One of the challenges of making podcast recommendations to people is knowing your target audience. Like movies or other media forms, there is all kinds of content, with all kinds of varying levels of offensive content, etc. I’ve slapped a movie rating level for each that’s listed below in an attempt to have some way of indicating that. If you are the type to be offended by explicit content and language and such, you’d best steer clear of the “Rated R” ones. Also, I’m going off memory, so don’t count on my rating being hyper-accurate.

I’ve also broken them down into a few groupings. Also, I subscribe to a lot of podcasts that are related to specific TV shows or to specific hobbies like film scores. I’m not including those in this list. If you’d like some recommendation on those kinds of podcasts, hit me up and I can possibly make some specific recommendations.

And for those wondering, my podcast player of choice is (and always has been) Pocket Casts. It’s a fantastic app that is feature rich in a great many ways. It indexes pretty much every podcast worth being able to find (that isn’t hidden behind an exclusive-only wall on Spotify, etc). It also syncs to their cloud platform so that it can sync between devices and their nice web-based player, to the point that it not only keeps track of what episodes you have listened to, but can resume mid-episode from where you were listening on one device to another (or to/from the web player).

These are ones where I don’t listen to every episode, but I do pick out episodes related to something I’m interested in when they go by on my new episode release feed list.
