Dark Water (8/10)
This is a rather effective thriller, which benefits greatly from the always great Jennifer Connelly in the lead role. Unlike most modern horror/thriller films, this movie doesn’t rely on shock tactics. Rather, it develops a great sense of creepiness and impending doom. The characters are very well developed, and there’s a certain sense of clausterphobia to the movie – not so much in terms of the physical environment, but in the pacing and production style. This is one of those films for people who constantly complain about the decline of the modern horror film – you know who you are, because I listen to y’all complain about it all the time. Well, go out and see this one, and you can quit your whining about the fact that nobody makes good suspense/horror films anymore.
