Ponderings For 2008-03-20
posted in Ponderings |- For those living under the so-called rock, Arthur Clarke, the legendary sci-fi writer, has passed away at 90. Famous not only for books like 2001: A Space Odyssey and the Rama series, he’s widely regarded for scientific notions, such as the origin of the idea of satellites.
- Speaking of satellites, Vanguard 1, the oldest of still-orbiting satellites, has now been rounding the Earth for 50 years.
- Woo hoo! Caprica has finally gotten a green light.
- And on the topic of Battlestar, here’s the cast appearance on Letterman for the Top 10 List from last night. Michael Hogan got the best one.
- And here’s another classic from The Onion (and hey, this one even has a mention of Schaumburg in it)
- Good grief. Check out the demise of the apparently notorious “Russian Rambo“
- Peter Berg, of all unusual choices, has been tapped to remake Dune
- Here’s a great trailer for Tropical Thunder, a funny looking new Vietnam movie starring (and directed by) Ben Stiller also starring Jack Black. It also features a hilarious looking performance from Robert Downey Jr. (one of my favorite actors).
- Jumping gerbils. How about an 11-year-old marrying a 10-year-old?
- Coming as a surprise to just about nobody, producer David Eick confirms the fate of Bionic Woman
- Wondered where spam really comes from? How about the fact that some 39% of it comes from one source?
- Here’s one not-so-tiny black hole you don’t wanna mess with
