Ponderings For 2007-02-17
- I’ve been working on going through the massive career of film composer Jerry Goldsmith, assembling custom music suites for each of his scores. He’s my favorite music artist of all time, film score or otherwise, and my library of CD’s for his scores is massive (pretty much everything that has ever been released, bootleg or otherwise). I’ve been working on the project for two and a half years now, pretty much since his death in 2004 (has it been that long?), and have been enjoying the project. Make no mistake, it’s been a really huge project, and has been quite the challenge. Just look at his IMDB page if you don’t believe me - and most of his scores have been released over the years (see his SoundtrackCollector.com page). I’ve been slowly working my way back in reverse chronological order at roughly a few scores per week, and am currently in the early 1970’s. The project has been great for a number of reasons, but my favorite thing about working on this is the process of going through it all, score by score, discovering many of them that I had picked up copies of over the years but really hadn’t taken the time to correctly listen to and enjoy. I recently finished work on his score to the little known Sean Connery film called “Ransom” (aka “The Terrorists”), which is yet another excellent Goldsmith score I hadn’t taken the time to properly enjoy before. The recording quality is not great, and I’d love to hear a new reperformance with great quality, but it’s not too terible considering the master recordings were lost. Anyway, I continue work on the project, discovering new gems as I go, hoping to finish by summer time by picking up the pace a bit (fingers crossed). The final result of the project will be massive in size and scope.
- Nifty, House & Bones have been renewed for next season. Not a huge shock, as they are both successful shows.
- Since Rachel Nichols (The Inside, Alias) has been cast, I’ll certainly be watching the show.
Dialog Of The Day: “No daughter of mine would shoot so wide.” (Castor Troy, played by John Travolta, in this scene anyway, in Face/Off)
Video Of The Day: This is a full 20/20 episode in length, but it’s certainly worth the watch. I completely believe it. The complaint of more money only works if they are talking about using it to pay teachers, plain and simple. I agree that the public school system is a flat out joke in the majority of the US. I also agree that a choice of school should be allowed. That would change the playing field entirely.
