If Beethoven had been killed in a plane crash at the age of 22, it would have changed the history of music... and of aviation.

Ponderings For 2007-02-11

  • OK, it’s official. My project for the next couple days will be falling back on my home machine from Vista to XP. Audio/Video compatability on Vista with apps and codecs is an absolute joke. The more I fix, the worse things get. The more apps I install, the worse it gets. I’ve been running Vista on this machine for a month or two now. As if Nero didn’t cause enough codec problems (on a version of Nero that lists full Vista compat, btw), Vegas 7, Roxio Media Creator and Adobe Audition cause countless problems. Then there’s the fact that nVidia **STILL** hasn’t gotten an nForce Ethernet driver that’ll work at gigabit rather than just 100MB, which is driving me BONKERS - as I transfer files huge multimedia files between my server and workstation heavily. You should see Vegas 7 be brought to its knees trying to work with various codecs at once. Throw the right combo of WMV, DivX and MPG into a project at once and watch Vegas just about choke the performance of the system entirely. That slows it down on XP, but not 1/100th as much as it does on Vista…

Dialog Of The Day: “I walked worlds of smoke and half-truths, intangible. Worlds of torment and of unnamable beauty. Opaline towers as high as small moons. Glaciers that rippled with insensate lust… And one world with nothing but shrimp… I tired of that one quickly.” (Illyria, played by Amy Acker in Angel 5.17 - a hilarious reference to Anya’s alternate universe of nothing but shrimp in Buffy 4.17)
