Tim Minear’s New Pilot

WHEDONesque – Okay, so now I can mention, my pilot got picked up today. Go team. Okay, the show is called “Drive.” The network is, um, Fox. And it’s a big, sprawling, ensemble that is utterly serialized. In the pilot, for instance, there are… let me count… about 16 possibly regular characters. Which means I got me some killin’ to do.

As Charlie Brown gears up, getting ready to make his triumphant run towards that football. He’s going to actually kick it this time. He’s sure of it. OK, so Tim Minear getting a new series on Fox seems like some kind of sick joke, but yet I still look forward to it. How insane does that make me? I mean sure, this is just a pilot pickup, which hardly means it’ll get a series pickup and/or hit the air. But still, the simple notion of a new series from him is enough to get me to look forward to it. Yet I know that even if it goes to air, it’s been proven that the thing is almost sure do die a fast, painful death. For those unfamiliar with Minear’s previous work, I’ll do a quick breakdown. He spent a while on Angel, which is what drew a large fanbase for him (myself included). Angel at least had an extended 5 season run. Then he went on to co-create the brilliant series Firefly, which got criminally cancelled before finishing the 14 episode run. That was at Fox. Then he went on to create the brilliant and criminally cancelled series Wonderfalls, which died short of an initial 13 episode run (though this show actually managed to cap off with a pretty good end). Again, you guessed it, on Fox. So, what do you think might happen the next season? Well, he has a new show called The Inside. Did it get cancelled too fast before airing the initial 13 episodes? Yep. And you guessed it – on Fox. So, somehow Minear gets to go back to the water hole at Fox again. I’ll give him credit. He’s got determination. Ah well, if it makes it to air, I’ll be watching.
