Team America: World Police (8/10)
IMDB – I’ll refrain from commenting on the politics of this movie, because to offer genuine political argument based on this movie is like trying to argue airline safety based on the movie Airplane. As expected, this movie is extremely crass and juvenile, but coming from Trey Parker & Matt Stone, there’s little else to expect. There is plenty of genuinely hilarious stuff in this movie. I could have done without some of the nasty humor, but there’s plenty more to make it fun. It has some hilarious musical numbers, too (we’re gonna need a “montage”!). The marrionette stuff works amazingly well, and they do like to point out how lame it can be from time to time (including a hilarious fight, Matrix style, near the beginning). Actually, it’s funny to me that Bill Pope, who was the director of photography on the Matrix films, was also the DP on this movie. And, Nick Glennie-Smith has a blast writing a totally lampooned Bruckheimer movie styled score.
